somewhere in between: taipei, 2014

100 pages, 4.33 x 4.33 inches, 11 x 11 cm

This book interweaves my everyday experiences in Taipei with the Sunflower Student Movement, which protested against Taiwan’s free trade pact with China from March 18 to April 10, 2014. The pairings of the pages are based on formal and conceptual relationships, taking into account light, color and scale, interior and exterior, public and private spaces, familiar and foreign. In contrast to the video’s large screen projection of the same series, the small book provides an intimate view of my experiences in the city. Somewhere in Between furthers my research on the relationship between place, identity and culture, reflecting on issues of travel and translation through multiple interpretations of a theme.
