Five bi-national artists-non-dancers from Asia, Africa, North and South America perform a sequence of traditional Brazilian rhythms including samba, roda, baião, xaxado, afoxé, frevo and samba-reggae. In learning and performing the same dance steps as a group, the individuals reveal their unique interpretations, including spontaneous unchoreographed movements. Recorded on a continuous take, Danço-Te plays with notions of cultural stereotypes questioning individuality and the body as a cultural territory. Made possible in part by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division.
